It’s a quiet country town with a community centre filled with everything you could think of. There was good tasty fresh food. The western pizzas are surprisingly good. I went to a place called sleepers it is an old railway station restaurant. The pizza was thin crusted with a small amount of toppings so was actually nice and light. It wasn't even oily. Delicious with pulled pork, capsicum/peppers, and pineapple with a tomato base and mozzarella cheese. Yes, pineapple does go on pizza.
The Komegelo community centre that has all the shops you need some cafes with good priced food, casual cheap clothes shops and souvenir shops to gather all those thigs you forgot to get for family and friends back home. It is has been created with old mudbricks and situated in a semi-circle shape.
Behind the centre are many Hostels I stayed at one called Hunters Rest. It was simple and quaint with a swimming pool, garden and outside community kitchen with a braai pit (african BBQ). Karien was a good accommodating host, I did not have a vehicle in my access so she dropped me at the shops to purchase basic supplies. Another lady called Tanya who worked for FAGASA also took me to Sleepers for lunch so people are happy to help each other out.
It is a great way of life as we had another couple com to say at Hunters Rest that had a broken down car, so they were parked on the side of the road. A local person picked them up and took them to town and another person recommended Hunters rest to stay while there car was assessed. These people found out they were stuck without a car indefinitely and had no idea how to get back to Cape Town it’s a 15hrs drive. Another gem also staying at Hunters rest said they could drop them back home as they go through Cape on their way home. These people were so relieved and that night we all had a braii and enjoyed each other's company exchanging many stories of our travels and way of life. I learnt lots of new information and which towns had the worst potholes, with Lyndenburg popping up as the worst multiple times with potholes that you could fit you cars in.
